[LINCOLN, Abraham (1809-1865]. WARREN, Henry F., photographer. President Lincoln, Pho. on the Balcony at the White House, March 6, 1865. Waltham, MA, 1865.
CDV on cardstock mount. Title and Henry F. Warren's Waltham, MA, imprint in lower margin.
The last known photograph of Lincoln, taken two days after his second inaugural speech. According to Hamilton and Ostendorf's Lincoln in Photographs, Warren used Lincoln's son, Tad, to coax the president out of the White House just two days after his second inauguration, on 6 March 1865. Warren made three negatives on 6 March 1865, one of which was lost, and they are believed to be the only photographs of Lincoln taken between his second inaugural and death. This pose is catalogued by Ostendorf as O-112 (pp. 214-215).
